Isle of Lewis Chess Set - Black and White

I am offering a brand new Isle of Lewis chess set based upon the originals which date back to medieval times. This is the most popular interpretation and is an excellent choice of the Lewis genre of chess set.

The Lewis Chessmen were discovered in 1831, on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland by a local shepherd. The chessmen discovered within the chamber are probably the most famous in gaming history and are the oldest complete set of chessmen ever found. Made from walrus tusk, the Lewis Chessmen are believed to be of Icelandic origin and to date back to the twelfth century.

I have been making chess sets now for many years and believe I have now perfected my craft. I have supplied sets to schools, universities, collectors and even film studios. Queen Me:

This set for comes with two extra queens for those of you who are lucky enough to get a pawn all the way down to the other end of the board and don't want to scrabble around looking for something to use as an extra queen.

The Set Itself:

The King proudly on his deeply carved throne with crown and sword in hand.
The Queen on her throne with her crown.
The Bishop on his throne with mitre, holding his staff.
The Knight astride his horse with shield, helmet and spear.
The Rook, a soldier holding his shield and sword.
The Pawns as richly carved obelisks.

Construction:

Each set is hand cast, painted, stained and lacquered to give a durable high quality result yet still retaining a certain ceramic and antique finish.

Colors available:

Unless you specify otherwise the colors for this set for are Jet Black for the dark and antique stone for the light. If you would prefer Moroccan red instead of the black, or the stone, then just let me know and I'll be more than happy to oblige.... Also available is deep walnut, in fact, you can mix and match any of these colors if you like. If you'd like any colors that aren't listed here then let me know and I'm sure I'd be able to accommodate you.

The king is 3.5 inches in height and the set would suit a standard tournament board with squares about two inches or more.

Vinyl Chess Mat:

This set also comes with an optional vinyl chess mat/board so you can start playing as soon as you receive it. This is a black and white mat with 2 inch squares and is tough, durable and wipe clean.

Packaging:

Each piece is individually wrapped in bubble wrap and then the whole set. This is then packed in a sturdy cardboard box into which is packed polystyrene peanuts for extra padding.

NOTE:

And don't forget, you can create your own bespoke set put together using any of the pieces from any of the sets in my shop in any colors you like. A real mix and match. So, for example, if you would like an Isle of Lewis set but prefer the King from a different set and/or the pawns from another set then that's no problem. As long as I currently make the pieces you can create whatever set you like. Simply request a custom order with your requirements and I'll do my best to accommodate. ☺
