Product Description
This listing is for a brand new Isle of Lewis chess set based upon the originals which date back to medieval times.
This is a more distinctive interpretation using many of the more unusual pieces, such as the round head berserker rooks, and is an excellent choice of the Lewis genre of chess set. The Lewis Chessmen were discovered in 1831, on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland by a local shepherd.
The chessmen discovered within the chamber are probably the most famous in gaming history and are the oldest complete set of chessmen ever found. Made from walrus tusk, the Lewis Chessmen are believed to be of Icelandic origin and to date back to the twelfth century.
Construction:
Each set is hand cast in reformed stone resulting in a solid, weighty and natural product (no plastic here thank you very much!) which is then stained, detailed and glazed to give a durable high quality result yet still retaining a certain ceramic and antique finish.
Colors available:
Unless you specify otherwise the colors for these pieces are Antique Red for the dark and Aged Sandstone for the light. If you would prefer Jet Black or Deep Walnut instead of the red, or the stone, then just let me know and I'll be more than happy to oblige.... In fact, you can mix and match any of these colors if you like. If you'd like any colors that aren't listed here then let me know before you purchase and I'm sure I'd be able to accommodate you.

The king is 3.5 inches in height and the set and unpacked weights approx 1.7KG! Would suit a board with squares approx 2 inches.
Vinyl Chess Mat:
This set also comes with an optional vinyl chess mat/board so you can start playing as soon as you receive it. This is a black and white mat with 2 inch squares and is tough, durable and wipe clean.
Estimated delivery within 4-6 weeks. -
