A brand new and more unusual variant of the Isle of Lewis chess set made by yours truly, based upon the originals which date back to medieval times.
The Lewis Chessmen were discovered in 1831, on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland by a local shepherd. The chessmen discovered within the chamber are probably the most famous in gaming history and are the oldest complete set of chessmen ever found. Made from walrus tusk, the Lewis Chessmen are believed to be of Icelandic origin and to date back to the twelfth century.
Queen Me: This set for comes with two extra queens for those of you who are lucky enough to get a pawn all the way down to the other end of the board and don't want to scrabble around looking for something to use as an extra queen.
The Set Itself:
The King proudly on his deeply carved throne with crown and sword in hand. The Queen on her throne with her crown. The Bishop on his throne with mitre, holding his staff. The Knight astride his horse with shield, helmet and spear. The Rook, a Warrior with shield, crown and sword in hand. The Pawns as bearded Warders.
Each set is hand cast in reformed stone resulting in a solid, weighty and natural product (no plastic here thank you very much!) which is then stained, detailed and glazed to give a durable high quality result yet still retaining a certain ceramic and antique finish. Each piece has an un-felted hard stone base as indeed would the originals have.
Unless you specify otherwise the colors for these pieces are Antique Red for the dark and Aged Sandstone for the light. If you would prefer Jet Black or Deep Walnut instead of the red, or the stone, then just let me know and I'll be more than happy to oblige.... In fact, you can mix and match any of these colors if you like. If you'd like any colors that aren't listed here then let me know before you purchase and I'm sure I'd be able to accommodate you.
